With Generation 1 Transformers exceeding expectations in sales and popularity, Hasbro launched the Generation 2 Transformer toys which are off shoots of the molds and designs of Generation 1 Transformers but taking new color schemes and finishes and sporting new weapons and accessories. These robotic action figures which could transform into cars, weapons, animals and even humans landed as icons in the robotic figure class of toys that knows no age and color as every robot enthusiasts get hold of new releases every year. Unfortunately the Generation 2 Transformers did not do well in the market and some of the Generation 2 Transformer models did not reach the market and remained on the drawing boards. This seemingly failure of the Generation 2 Transformers pushed Hasbro to look into a whole new model of Transformer zeroing on a beast-like model where the Transformers could change into animal figures. Thus in 1996 the Beast Wars and Beast Machines series were created. The success of this series is connected with the simultaneous release of computer generated imagery which brought about the release of Transformer animated cartoon series that dominated the television genre of both the US and international market including Japan. The Beast War series became such a hit despite the fact that it got renamed in other countries such as Canada because of the association of the word “war”. Some markets renamed the Transformer Beast War series as Beasties but renamed such a huge crowd pleaser. Apparently, the original figures of Generation 1 Transformers were still the much adored and well liked version especially because of their ability to get transformed as usable and realistic vehicles rather than the unimaginative animal series.
